Note by Jane (John's wife):

Sorry the photo isn't very good - this is one of John's illustrations from a pop-up book Who's Afraid of Tigers which was published in 1993. For this book John worked with well-known paper engineer, Keith Moseley, who did the pop-ups. It's a really fun book!

I hope you folks on DA don't mind - I've put this up here today to draw attention to something. You may know about it already.

Fewer than 5,000 tigers are estimated to remain in the wild, and they too may disappear unless more effective efforts are made to halt illegal trade.

Jane, first this is such a lovely painting!
Second, It's a shame that there are only so less tigers. They are such beautiful animals!!

The tiger and the dog are so cute :D I like the overal innocence that fills the piece :)
I've always wanted to make a pop-up book, they seem like so much fun ^_^

Also, the problem with tiger hunting is so sad :( I was reading through the links you posted and have already signed and sent contacts to my friends. Hopefully they'll sign too  Thanks for sharing that info and helping such a good cause :)

Thanks again J I do appreciate your checking out the links  Thanks also for signing and for passing the contacts to your friends, Jane will be very pleased, she was very upset when she found out about the tiger farms.

Yes pop-up books are fun, they are very complicated things to design though. I can do simple paper engineering myself, but for the books with moving parts and tabs to pull I usually work with an experienced specialist paper engineer.

Thanks for the orphan works links J. I checked those out (sorry for not getting back to you on that.) I havefound other conflicting info on the subject, and I have ended up not knowing what to think about it all. :(
